Tallest Super Boom in Africa Takes Local Market To New Heights!

Media Releases, News

Concord Hi-Reach introduces the Genie SX-180, the tallest self-propelled Super Boom yet in Africa, that reaches higher with a remarkable working height of 57m.

“As the official distributor of the well-known Genie range of equipment in Southern Africa, we are very pleased to bring this exciting new lifting solution to the market,” says George Landsberg, CEO of Concord Hi-Reach, a leading supplier of premium brand work-at-height equipment and allied services and part of the Imperial Group.

“The Genie SX-180 is also immediately available to the Southern African market as a rental option from Concord Access Rental,” according to Managing Director, Dean Jones. “As a specialist Rental Company, our comprehensive rental fleet of versatile Mobile Elevated Work Platforms is suited to a wide range of aerial access applications.”

The SX-180 next generation telescopic boom lift has been specially engineered to meet the highest work-at-height installation, erection and maintenance requirements across a broad market spectrum, from general construction and chemical industries to utilities, airports, harbours and refineries.

The design of the Genie Super Boom is centred on extensive customer feedback to meet the demand for rugged reliability, fast manoeuvrability, and easy maintenance and transport. With a staggering vertical reach of 57m and a 24.4m horizontal reach, the boom lift goes almost 10m higher than any previous self-propelled boom lift. “Furthermore, it is fully extendable or retractable in just five minutes,” adds Landsberg.

“Another key feature of the machine,” says Landsberg, “is its increased platform capacity which enhances both productivity and safety. Two people can work efficiently and comfortably, with easy access to gear and equipment, on the spacious 2.44m by 0.91m platform which has an unrestricted load capacity of 340 kg.” With a 3.05m rotating jib to facilitate precise positioning of workers and gear, the unit provides the perfect working envelope ideal for the most extreme access jobs.

Controls have also been optimised with new toggle switches and fully proportional jib and boom controls on the platform while enhanced ground controls feature a new intuitive function diagram layout complete with tactile membrane switches.

The impressively tall, tough 26,000-kg machine is powered by a choice of new-generation Tier IIIB Perkins or Deutz 74-hp engines and can be driven at full height. Landsberg points out that travel speeds vary based on boom position and range. A 225 litre fuel tank, for longer running time and a 7.5 KW generator are standard on the machine.

The Genie’s patented extendable and retractable X-Chassis is specially engineered to provide stability on the job and to facilitate transport. The machine’s axles are adaptable to specific heavy job site requirements and can be extended from 2.49 m up to 5 m; very heavy gauge steel box-section frames provide extremely stable and safe foundations when the axles are extended. Once retracted, the axles are also easily stored within the undercarriage for easy transport. As the only machine of its kind to combine such an impressive platform height with balanced machine weight and compact stored dimensions, the SX-180 can be transported virtually anywhere in the world without over-width or over-weight permits.

The Genie is all about easy maintenance and low operational costs. With easy-to-reach systems and inspection points, critical components can be removed quickly to keep service time and downtime to an absolute minimum.

The Genie SX-180 Super Boom is the pinnacle in lifting solutions, combining exceptionally high reach, fast telescoping speeds and a large working platform for maximum productivity.
